The pressure of a disk or fragment thereof on a nerve root causes pain or weakness in the distribution of sensorimotor nerve root. The cause of pain in the absence of direct pressure on the nerve root is not well understood, may be due to inflammation in response to injury of the degenerated disc. Clinical Manifestations
